This month we are celebrating our six month anniversary of three rescued hens who came to keep our long-term hennie Biddy company, she has had four and a half years free.
We have always had groups of hens who haven't mixed but Biddy's particular group lost their last hennie and she needed company.
It has taken a long time for these three to feel at home as they were particularly scared and very thin and scraggy when they first arrived. The bad weather early this year didn't help but the last few weeks has seen them blossom including long dust baths and sunbathing; every hens dream.
They are free to wander our rescue and they get up to all kinds of mischief, (see the picture of them using our bike to see in to the conservatory where their dinner is waiting, clever hennies). It's funny to see that they are actually the bosses when it comes down to the turkeys, even though the turkeys are ten times bigger - our tiny rescues are boss-ladies.
